Hi, I'm Ripan. I'm not a professional historian. I'm a student who got hooked on history, and not the textbook kind. I love the strange, overlooked and badly misremembered kind.
Hidden Chronicles started because I kept finding stories that made me stop and say "wait, this actually happened?" and had nowhere to share them. It is a one-person project: there is no team, no agency and no sponsor behind it.
This site is my history rabbit hole, made public.
How articles are made
Every article starts from a question I want answered: what really happened, how we know, and where the popular version goes wrong. I work from published scholarship, museum and excavation reports, and translated primary sources wherever they exist, and each article ends with a list of the sources it relies on so you can check them yourself.
- Evidence first: where the record is solid, I say so. Where it is legend, disputed or unproven, I label it clearly as such.
- Myth versus reality: many articles set a popular claim beside what the evidence actually supports.
- Sources listed: every article ends with its sources and further reading.
- Image credits: images come from public-domain and openly licensed collections such as Wikimedia Commons and are credited on the page.
Corrections
If you spot a mistake, please tell me through the contact page. I would much rather fix an error than leave it up, and corrected articles are updated in place.
